About JB Burtch
I have never read an "artist's statement" that made any sense. Unless text is a part of the art itself, it's always seemed superfluous. In the words of photographer Saul Leiter, “I don’t have a philosophy, I have a camera.”
When I took the photograph above, I wasn't quite sure what I had captured. Seeing it now in black and white, it expresses this current phase of my life. I'm on a journey, heading out into the unknown.
I'm grateful to William Moos, my art teacher at Western Reserve Academy, who taught me that to fully see a photograph, you actually have to look at it. The world is full of art. A photograph is just another way to look.
